I voted for the first time on Sunday. I’ve been advised not to reveal the candidates I voted for. I can say with great pride, though, that I voted “skirt and blouse”. A few days ago, I wrote and urged my friends and compatriots to vote “skirt and blouse” and it seems that’s what most Ghanaians did.
Results I have seen so far put the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo in a slight lead and he just might win by a whisker. But don’t write off John Atta Mills just yet. These same results suggest that no one party would have an overriding majority in parliament.
It’s early days yet but the signs are on the wall: the party of the executive might not have a majority in parliament. That’s a “skirt and blouse” government I wished for. If at the end of all vote count, it turns out that my wish has been granted, I will ditch my jeans for a day and wear “skirt and blouse” to work – my wife permitting!
