SPECIAL INVITATION: Launch of ‘Pretending to be President’

I just took delivery of the very first copies of ‘Pretending to be President’. They look good and that means that all is set for my first book to hit the bookshelves in a few days. I am very delighted and humbled and deeply impressed by the quality of the print from Combert Impressions.

It’s surreal. I am still asking myself: “so there is a book with my name written on it?”

I’d get used to the feeling very soon.

For now, I have great pleasure in inviting you to join me on ‘Weekend City Show’ on Joy FM this Saturday – Independence Day – for the ‘launch’ of ‘Pretending to be President’. I’ve been told it’s going to be the first radio launch of a book in Ghana. And it starts from 7am.

The founder and leader of the Noko Fio Party, B. K. Oduro, has kindly agreed to be our special guest. I haven’t seen him in a long time and I am looking forward to our ‘reunion’.

After a few words have been said to officially declare the book launched, I will be signing autographs for everyone who is kind enough to part with Ten Ghana Cedis (GHC 10) for a copy of the book.

Later in the afternoon, I will join my Joy FM colleagues and some of our friends from other corporate organisations for the ‘Sports Invitational Tournament’ at the El Wak Stadium. I will do my best to help ‘The Super Hitters’ win the trophy at stake and shortly thereafter, I’d go back to autographing copies of ‘Pretending to be President’.

I’ve never looked so much forward to March 6 like I am doing this year.

I hope and pray you make time spend a part of your Independence Day celebrations with me. I look forward to making a lot of new friends (and some money) on that day.

In the meantime, I’d be posting reviews of the book, written by some of my friends who kindly agreed to read the first manuscript of the book. I can’t say their reviews are entirely objective.

So when you read the book and you feel like writing a review, I’d gladly post it on this site.

See you on Saturday.

Ato, writing more against Kufour's regime without scrutinizing his predecessors or the new president(Mills) makes "pretending to be president" bias. Next time include all of them and it will be a good piece. This is more of you against kufour's regime but it should reflect all the regime's in Ghana in the future
  Ato's Response
You are telling me to write a history of Ghana. I'd need several encyclopaedic volumes to do that.

  Ato's Response
  Very strange.

This Book could have been great if you had taken the extra effort in making it "bias" free by adding across the board views from regimes other than Kufour's.

As it stands you alienate those in the Opposition NPP. Frankly, only those in NDC will patronise.

  Ato's Response
There should be copies in Ho by the end of next week. Will you help with the design for the next one, please?

Ato, tommorrows launch is a serious business, kindly keep Nii Ayi, George Quaye and Rudy out of the studio. Anyway I wouldn't mind having your compatriot Papa Kow. Its beeing along time since he appeared on the most irreverent 2 hrs show on radio. I'll be by my Akasanoma following the launch

  04 Mar 2010 | 12:24 PM
Oh I feel soooo left out Ato. I have said this but let me say it again. Well done bruv. You have talked the talk and indeed walked the walk. I think this book will serve as some “reference encyclopaedia”. In that whatever problems we face today or when it arises, we go back to the book to check when it first occurred, the plenty rhetoric’s and the solutions and what we have learned etc. Ato I Hope u have not miscalculated how many people will be coming for the lunch. I don’t want to hear people moaning about coming all the way and going back empty handed. I feel very left out....!

Hi brother, you have done it. So you see you don't necessarily need to annoy a politician to throw you in jail before you write a book? Best wishes on your radio launch.
I shall be listening on my way to Cape Coast and then I will come for a copy at Silverbird later. FELICITATIONS !!!

@ATO, would you like to raise people creative writing skills to your level especially from deprived areas? if yes then consider Donating some copies of your book as library materials to some of those deprived schools in the country in that way you will contribute you little quota to this country of ours. God bless Ghana
